How to Read Your Birth Chart

Reading it in five steps

1. Start with the Big Three

Your Sun is your core purpose and what energizes you. Your Moon is your inner emotional world and what makes you feel safe. Your Rising (Ascendant) is the mask you wear and how life first meets you. Those three alone explain most of what people notice about you.

2. Read a placement as a sentence

Every line in your chart is: PLANET (what part of life) in SIGN (how it behaves) in HOUSE (where it happens). Example: Mars in Libra in the 7th House = your drive shows up diplomatically, inside relationships.

3. Check your angles

The four angles are the skeleton of the chart: Ascendant, Descendant, Midheaven, and Imum Coeli. They anchor identity, partnership, public life, and home.

4. Look at the aspects

Aspects are the conversations between planets — how the parts of you cooperate or argue. Tight orbs (small numbers) mean a louder, more obvious theme.

5. Look for repetition

Don't chase single placements. Look for a theme that repeats — three water placements, a stack of planets in one house, the same planet touching everything. Repetition is where the truth of a chart lives.

The angles

Ascendant (AC) — Rising Sign

The sign on the eastern horizon at your birth. Your vibe, appearance, and default approach to life. This is why exact birth time matters — the Ascendant changes roughly every two hours and sets all your houses.

Descendant (DC)

Directly opposite the Ascendant. The qualities you seek in partners and meet through other people.

Midheaven (MC)

The highest point of the chart. Your public image, career direction, and what you're known for.

Imum Coeli (IC)

Opposite the Midheaven. Your private foundation, home life, and emotional roots.

Aspects — how your planets talk

Conjunction (0°)

Fused. The two planets act as one, for better or worse.

Sextile (60°)

Easy support. A talent that flows when you use it.

Square (90°)

Tension that forces growth. Friction you feel constantly.

Trine (120°)

Natural gift. Comes so easily you may take it for granted.

Opposition (180°)

A tug-of-war asking for balance between two needs.
